Serena

Serena is a 21 year old woman who presented to hospital after taking an overdose of prescription drugs. She had been experiencing increasing difficulties with low mood over the four months preceding her suicide attempt. Her symptoms included sleeping difficulties, irritability, tearfulness and anger.

This case study shows how Serena and the therapist worked with PST over seven one hour, face-to-face sessions. The content and structure of each session is outlined.

Rebecca

Rebecca is a twenty-five year old Maori woman. Rebecca started problem solving therapy one week after presenting to hospital after an overdose of sleeping tablets and painkillers.

In this case study we show how Rebecca implemented the steps of PST. The steps could be completed in as little as one or two sessions, depending on the motivation and abilities of the client.
